We stopped for a picture with some of the people in the village church, today. Sue Pfaff is the third person from the right. I (Michael) am in the hat, and Lori is sporting a gift of a hand-woven Manus string bag (bilum).
“Nasi” is the Nali word for “Grandmother”. Sue is much more than a Bible translation team advisor. She has become part of a community. Jerry and Sue Pfaff have lived among the Nali people for many years, living out the Gospel as well as translating it. People come to her for expert wound care, prayer, and counseling. Proper wound care is important in this jungle. She treated an infected cut on my leg, too. After Jerry went home to Heaven, Sue determined to carry on. That was not an easy choice. This very rural island is not an easy place to live. Out in her village, there are no utilities. There is mobile phone and Internet service from one carrier, but it isn’t super reliable. (It was just offline for a few hours right before I wrote this.) No road comes to her house. The steep trail between the dirt road and her house is treacherous when wet, and it rains a lot. The last time she was here, she fell on it and broke an elbow. It is our pleasure to be able to help our dear friend not just with direct ministry (which we are doing), but with some practical aspects of getting things working right in her house again. We thank God that, with your help, we are able to help and encourage Sue.
