Healing Miracles

Jesus raising up Jairus' daughter.

When he came to the house, he didn’t allow anyone to enter in, except Peter, John, James, the father of the child, and her mother. All were weeping and mourning her, but he said, “Don’t weep. She isn’t dead, but sleeping.”
They were ridiculing him, knowing that she was dead. But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, “Child, arise!” Her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. He commanded that something be given to her to eat. —Luke 8:51-55, World English Bible (Illustration courtesy © Sweet Publishing CC-BY-SA)

Healing Miracles

The Holy Bible is full of true accounts of healing and even resurrections. But what about now? YES! Here is one. On Christmas Eve, I was walking back from church in the dark, and tripped on a pothole and hit the pavement hard. Somehow, I hit just wrong and cracked a rib (#7 on the right side, according to the x-ray). It hurt to move, walk, breathe, etc. I asked you to pray, and some people here prayed for me, too, asking for quick healing. Normally, it takes 6-8 weeks to heal a broken rib. After 2 weeks, I felt good enough to go outside and exercise on my bicycle, pedaling uphill and puffing as hard as I pleased, without pain. It seems to me that God answered our prayers! Glory be to God!

I have experienced other healing miracles, too. One was in Papua New Guinea, many years ago. I got very sick with two kinds of malaria (plasmodium vivax and plasmodium falciparin) at the same time. Malaria is a deadly and unpleasant disease. The nurse on call at our mission clinic was interested to see such a strong and mixed infection in my blood sample. She let me look into the microscope at the slide of my own blood. The identification chart for the malaria parasites was on the wall next to the microscope. I could see at least one malaria parasite in almost every cell of my blood. That explained why I felt awful, was weak, and had cycling fevers. The nurse and my wife made me promise to take the medicine, which normally knocks the disease back within 2-4 weeks. Normally, malaria hides out in the liver and keeps coming back whenever a body gets stressed. We did more than use the standard medicine, though, and prayed to Father God in the name of Jesus, asking for quick and complete healing. That was on a Saturday. I rested on Sunday, then got up Monday, feeling great, and went to work. I took a short break from work to walk to the clinic to get tested for malaria, again. They could not find even one malaria parasite in my blood sample. I never had malaria again. Praise God!

Now I know that experiences vary, and that the Scriptures on healing are maybe a little hard to understand in the heat of the battle against disease and injuries, but I can assure you that it is well worth studying these Scriptures and praying. Father God really loves us.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to heal the broken hearted,
to proclaim release to the captives,
recovering of sight to the blind,
to deliver those who are crushed,
and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
—Luke 4:18-19, World English Bible
